This is a projects website and the website itself is a project, so...

Why a website?

  • I've got some spare time.
  • Starlink makes it easy to online stuff after a decade with no internet.
  • I've got a bunch of hobbies and related projects that it's fun to write about.
  • I'm tired of using email to keep those who care up-to-date on what I'm up to.

Why Grav?

You can find more details here, but in a nutshell:

  • no database (just a bunch of files)
  • easy to install on my web host without needing a bunch of support
  • easy to start using, but provides more than enough power for me to grow into
  • open source. This is very important to me. I have no problem paying for stuff, but having the code available is important.
  • free to start with reasonable terms of use and affordable add-ons and enhancements

Why Gantry?

You can find more details here, but in a nutshell:

  • having templates is, I think, critical to managing a modern website
  • working with templates needs to be easy, and Gantry provides that
  • open source
  • free to start with reasonable terms of use and affordable templates available from a wide variety of sources
